The problem with the increasing number of vehicles parking in Ponta Baixo is causing concern and has become the target of criticism from municipal elected officials.

City of Nova Sintra May 21, 2025 (Bravanews) – The growing number of parked vehicles, many of them turned into carcasses, in the town of Ponta Baixo, near the Brava City Council (CMB) workshop, is generating strong discontent and concern among residents and municipal elected officials. The situation was one of the highlights of the first Session of the Brava Municipal Assembly (AMB), where an elected member of the PAICV requested urgent measures to clear the road.

The problem with the increasing number of vehicles parking in Ponta Baixo is causing concern and has become the target of criticism from municipal elected officials.

The elected official highlighted the various constraints caused by the accumulation of vehicles, including the accumulation of garbage, the transformation of places into mosquito breeding grounds and the deterioration of the area's image. This area, on the outskirts of the city of Nova Sintra, has been known for its recreational, cultural and recreational activities, especially for children, and the presence of vehicles has compromised this potential.

Municipal elected official João José Delgado had already publicly criticized the situation, which is now being echoed in the municipality's deliberative body. The AMB's demand for a quick solution reflects the feeling of the community that sees the region being devalued by inaction.

For Delgado, in response to this request, the Brava City Council, in an “ironical” manner or perhaps as a demonstration of questionable priorities, placed yet another vehicle in what the population already calls the institution’s “parking lot” or “car cemetery”: the fire truck recently arrived from the USA, the result of a donation from a foreign City Council with the support of emigrants.

For Delgado, the CMB’s decision to add another vehicle instead of removing the existing ones raises questions about the effectiveness of its actions and its real intention to solve the problem. The population and the elected municipal officials are now waiting for a plausible justification for this apparent inaction, which many interpret as a lack of respect for the quality of life and the image of Brava Island.
